Sagehens men’s water polo continues strong SCIAC season with win over La Verne

The Hens men’s water polo team took to the pool in a back-and-forth SCIAC matchup against La Verne on Wednesday, Oct. 23, defeating the Leopards 17-2 after 32 minutes of close play. Entering the game having won four of their last five games, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) men’s water polo came into the game prepared.

The pool was open late on Sunday, Sept. 8, as the Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) swim and dive team lined up for their annual midnight swim. Each year, the team meets to kick off the season with speeches from the seniors on the team before a 50-yard swim.

On Sept. 7 and 8, the Stags and Sagehens men’s water polo teams left the comfort of Claremont to face Division I foes at UC San Diego’s Triton Invitational. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ (CMS) 12-11 win against UC Merced allowed the newest players to showcase their abilities before the start of the regular season.

Finals season started early for athletes at the Claremont Colleges as the Sagehens and Athenas looked to make the grade in a trio of championship showdowns on Sixth Street. Ultimately, it was straight A’s for the Hens on the semester, sending the Athenas home with no credit and no titles.
