From early morning alarms and two daily practices, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) swim and dive are gearing up for another season of maximum intensity. For the men’s team, the preparation is not only an attempt to end a six-year drought since their last SCIAC championship, but also to make the journey worthwhile.

Sagehen swimmers bring hardware back to nest: Kyle Huang and Valerie Mello awarded SCIAC Athlete of the Year
Valerie Mello PZ ’25 and Kyle Huang PO ’27 lit up the scoreboards this year for Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) Swim and Dive, contributing to a No. 1 finish for the women and No. 2 finish for the men at the SCIAC Championships in February. Both Mello and Huang’s performances merited SCIAC Swim and Dive Athlete of the Year honors.
Trophies all around: CMS and P-P swim into nationals as champions
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) swam into the playoffs, both squads leaving the SCIAC championships with a trophy. The CMS men’s team took home first place for the sixth consecutive season, and the women got second. The P-P women took home the first-place trophy for the second year in a row, while the men took home second. Both teams had standout individual performances, propelling them both into nationals.
Nocturnal Sagehens take to the pool at midnight for season-opening swim
The pool was open late on Sunday, Sept. 8, as the Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) swim and dive team lined up for their annual midnight swim. Each year, the team meets to kick off the season with speeches from the seniors on the team before a 50-yard swim.
Sagehens can fly, but they swim faster: P-P women’s swim and dive wins two first place trophies at NCAA national championship
The Hens swam all the way to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the Division III national championship from March 20 to 23, where they placed seventh overall. Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) took home two first place titles and seven All American honors in both relays and individual events over the intense four day competition.
Sagehens swim into 2024 with “big deck energy”
With goggles on and feathers in a row, the Sagehen men’s swim and dive team is fin-ally gearing up for a poolside showdown. Ready to dive into victory, they’re set to make waves this winter. Eyeing the SCIAC championship coveted by the no. 1 ranked Stags for the past three seasons, they’re determined to seize the title and prove it’s their turn to reign supreme in the pool.
CMS brings home two NCAA titles as the 5Cs come together at historic swim and dive Nationals
Is it enemies to lovers? Probably not. But maybe it could be rivals, turned quasi-teammates. From SCIACs to NCAAs all in one month, both CMS and P-P made a splash at nationals and fostered a new sense of community amongst all 5Cs in the process.
