A resurgent Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) women’s soccer team kicked past Puget Sound 2-0 on Sunday, Nov. 16, to secure its spot in the round of 16 in the NCAA Division III tournament. Though the Sagehens have consistently finished in the top echelons of SCIAC, they have not advanced past the second round of the NCAA playoffs since their historic run in 2019, when they reached the semifinals. This victory over Puget Sound broke the team’s streak of early exits, so it holds a special place in the hearts of many players.

With an undefeated regular season in the conference, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) women’s soccer played Cal Lutheran in the SCIAC tournament final on Nov. 9 to claim the cherry on top: a championship. Unfortunately, however, the Sagehens fell short in a 2-1 defeat despite taking the early lead. Defender Vivian Rojas Collins PO ’27 believed that the final score did not explain the whole story, as the Hens’ second half showed their strengths.

In the second iteration of the Sixth Street Rivalry, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women’s soccer battled in a goalless draw. The Hens entered the game hoping to ride the high from their 1-0 victory against the Athenas on Sept. 24. But the full-time whistle marked the end of a tied contest, as neither side was able to find a winner despite a combined 23 shots.

Sagehens edge out Banana Slugs to come out victorious in first round of NCAA tournament
On Saturday, Nov. 16, the Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) women’s soccer team won a thriller against UC Santa Cruz in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. Tied after 110 minutes of regular play, perfect penalties from Maxine Davey PO ’25, Ella Endo PO ’25, Taylor Marshall PZ ’26, Spencer Deutz PZ ’25 and Vivian Rojas Collins PO ’27 were enough for the Sagehens to prevail.

The Sagehens continued their dominance on Oct. 5 with a 2-0 win over the Athenas. The women’s soccer team kept their 10 game winning streak over the Athenas alive for yet another Sixth-Street beatdown. Ella Endo PO ’25 and Hannah Hong PO ’26 led the hens in scoring with a goal apiece in the biggest rivalry game of their season.
