Recap: Sagehen women’s basketball beats Chapman in SCIAC Semifinal to advance to Championship against CMS

The P-P women’s basketball team (21-5, 14-2 SCIAC) won its first ever SCIAC tournament game with a 75-62 win over Chapman (16-10, 11-5) on Thursday. Earlier in the week, the Sagehens beat Occidental (7-18, 1-15 SCIAC) 78-59 in the final game of the regular season to seal their first ever 20-win season.

In the SCIAC semifinal, P-P fell behind 22-8 in the first quarter before outscoring the Panthers by 27 over the final three quarters. Four players scored in double digits for the Sagehens, led by Renae Tamura’s PO ’21 16 points and seven rebounds. The Sagehen defense recorded 10 steals and forced Chapman into 20 turnovers, compared to P-P’s 10.
