A walkout song can be used for good or evil. Expert team players and aspiring glue guys spend hours ruminating on such topics. Done correctly, the walkout song can act as a rallying point for the team, a highlight of an inning. But one wrong misstep or misreading of vibes can elicit cascades of groans from both benches. CMS women’s water polo can’t drown out USC but come away with 3-1 record at Claremont Convergence
The Athenas waged an underwater war against DI and DII foes at the Claremont Convergence Tournament on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women’s water polo fought valiantly and came away with three wins at Axelrood pool, but fell to the USC Trojans 18-4.

CMS stags basketball trample over the Sagehens’ hope of a postseason berth in a packed one shot game. The Stags earned a second half comeback by executing their game with great exigence and energy, and rode the momentum to a SCIAC league title, defeating California Lutheran in finals.
“We just studied the game plan and stayed aggressive and we just tried to attack them…we just tried to turn that up in the 2nd half and just continuing to take it play by play, we knew it was going to be a grind out game.” said Caelan Jones CGU ‘25.

The Athenas snatched a win from the Eagle’s clutches on Saturday, Feb. 10 during the women’s water polo home opener against Concordia at Axelrood Pool after their recent invitational on the east coast. A close game through all four quarters, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) swam away with a score of 8-7.

The Athenas were without their wits during their 4-0 loss against Hope International on Saturday, Feb. 3 as they struggled to get on base. The Stags tamed the Panthers at Roberts in a tight game on Saturday, Feb. 3 with a final score of 82-79, bringing their 2023 dominance into the new year. So far CMS has only dropped one game after the break and now has a conference record of 11-2.
CMS looks toward SCIAC championship after a record setting OIDFE meet
A Sixth-street classic to start the season! The Stags and Athenas raced to defend last season’s SCIAC titles at OIDFE, their home opener on Saturday, Jan. 27. “I think we need to adjust and get used to the man-up man-down scenarios and perfect our zone defense,” Audrey Jacklyn PZ ‘27 said. “I think UCLA was able to crack our zone a little and seal pretty well on cuts.”
CMS Athenas volleyball reaches NCAA final four, loses at home to Hope College
CMS served up a smashing tournament as hosts, but alas, even goddesses face tough opponents. After their impressive upset on Nov. 29, where they defeated the no.1 seed University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Titans, the Athenas fell to the Hope College Flying Dutchmen in a dramatic 5 set showdown.
