As the new school year gets underway, a new group of student body presidents is stepping into leadership roles across the 5Cs, each bringing their own priorities and ideas for the year ahead. From increasing student engagement and rebuilding campus communities to advocating for shared governance and transparency, the presidents at Harvey Mudd, Scripps, Pitzer, Claremont McKenna and Pomona are looking to make their mark on their campuses.

5Cs to switch to 100% renewable electricity
Presidents across the 5Cs announced Friday, April 17 that the colleges will transition to 100% renewable electricity by enrolling in the Clean Power Alliance (CPA), following a yearlong 5C Environmental Justice (5CEJ) campaign to phase out fossil fuels.
The “Claremont Off Fossil Fuels”campaign proposed the Colleges stop purchasing electricity from Southern California Edison (SCE), an investor-owned utility that primarily relies on fossil fuels, and instead enroll in the CPA, a not-for-profit energy provider that offers 100% renewable electricity options. The Claremont Colleges’ Business and Financial Affairs Committee and the consortium-wide presidents committee have now approved the proposal.
Milo Slevin PO ’28, campaign co-founder, said the transition marks a concrete shift in how the Colleges demonstrate their commitment to sustainability by taking action that immediately reduces carbon footprint.
Pomona approves $125 million investment plan for new Center for Global Engagement; students express housing concerns
Pomona College President Gabrielle Starr confirmed in an announcement last month that the college’s Board of Trustees approved a $125 million investment plan for the Center for Global Engagement (CGE), the facility that will replace Oldenborg Center for Modern Languages and International Relations, a residential complex and dining hall where students learn and practice foreign languages.
College officials said they will adjust for the temporary decrease in housing after Oldenborg is demolished and before the CGE is completed.
ASCMC inaugural meal packing event yields 16,000 meals for charity

Students, faculty and alumni discuss ICE and civil unrest in Minneapolis
Last Saturday, more than 20 students, faculty and 5C alumni gathered in Claremont McKenna College’s Kravis Center for an event hosted by The Open Academy to discuss the mobilization of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Participants also talked about the recent murders of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minneapolis.
CMS football caps off season with a muddy victory over La Verne
In a rainy, muddy game of football that capped off the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Stags’ season on Saturday, Nov. 15, they found success through the run game to defeat the La Verne Leopards 5-0. The Stag running back Cooper Nixon HM ’27 ran for 196 yards, a stark contrast from the two passing yards combined between both teams’ quarterbacks.
Kick it with the Pears and Claremont FC – club soccer at the 5Cs
The two club soccer teams in Claremont are back for another year and they’re better than ever. The Claremont Pears, the 5C men’s soccer club, faced off against Cal State Channel Islands on Nov. 9, and Claremont FC, the 5C women’s soccer club, played Cal Poly Pomona later that day. This is the second game of the season for the Pears, and they defeated the Dolphins 10-0 in a dominant showing of the new roster.
P-P men’s and CMS women’s cross-country secure SCIAC championship
On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) cross-country teams both secured victories at the SCIAC Championships, hosted in their own backyard of Claremont, California. The P-P men’s and CMS women’s teams took first in their division, while the P-P women’s and CMS men’s teams trailed closely in second; displaying Claremont’s dominance in the conference.
Pomona-Pitzer football falls to La Verne at home, looking for a turning point to finish strong in SCIAC
On Saturday, Oct. 25, Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) football was outmatched by La Verne in an unexpected 8-26 upset loss. For head coach John Walsh, the game was a reminder of the always formidable competition that exists within the SCIAC.
Jack Stein PO ’26 etches his name into Pomona-Pitzer history books as he breaks cross-country program record
It’s not every day that you see someone rewrite Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) cross country history, given the program’s lengthy history of laudable accomplishments—but Jack Stein PO ’26 just did so in 23 minutes and 45 seconds. At the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 27, Stein set a P-P cross country program record of 23:45.4, which, for reference, converts to an average pace per mile of around 4:47. For Stein, setting the record was a special moment in his illustrious career thus far.
