Sagehens snap Athenas’ win streak in Sixth Street Rivalry to maintain SCIAC dominance

Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) women’s water polo dunked the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Athenas to extend their streak to 73 straight wins in the SCIAC in a close 7-5 Sixth Street matchup. This impressive victory came on the back of a hat-trick by Brienz Lang PO ‘26, who also scored the opening goal. But Lang recognized the team effort that helped pull in the win.

Goalkeeper Thea Pine PZ ’27 made a splash against Azusa Pacific University (APU) with nine saves on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Entering her second season for Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) women’s water polo, Pine is the second goalie and continues to refine her skills in the cage.

Finals season started early for athletes at the Claremont Colleges as the Sagehens and Athenas looked to make the grade in a trio of championship showdowns on Sixth Street. Ultimately, it was straight A’s for the Hens on the semester, sending the Athenas home with no credit and no titles.
