Lizette Gonzalez PO ’27 is a first-gen, Latine first-year. Safe spaces have been crucial during her transition to the 5Cs, but she has noticed a major issue with actually addressing the major culture shock experienced by students like her.
As the spring semester winds down, 5C students are facing the annual question of where and how to store their personal belongings over the summer. Pomona College students — who have typically had the option to store their belongings on campus over the summer — were told that, this year, on-campus spaces are “not suited for long-term storage,” according to a March 1 email from Dean of Campus Life Josh Eisenberg.
The first annual 5C First Gen Week, organized by first-generation student coalitions at each college, consisted of daily events spanning the 5Cs.
In the Weekly Writing Workshop, students from across the 5Cs gather to mentor young students and help them improve their writing abilities.
The fourth annual Money Matters Week was organized by the FLI at Pomona College, and highlights how the 5Cs engage in classist activities.
