The Pomona College class of 2026’s final celebration the night of their graduation ended in confrontations with Campus Safety and, eventually, the Claremont Police Department (CPD). Officers followed the group from Pomona to Harvey Mudd College and ultimately called the CPD on students. What multiple students and HRL student employees described as an excessive and abnormal response prompted TSL to investigate protocols surrounding HRL and Campus Safety’s relationship to the CPD.

Claremont Police Commission holds first meeting since homicide of Diego Rios; community demands reform
Last Thursday the Claremont Police Commission held their first meeting since the homicide of Diego Rios. Claremont community members — including many 5C students — spoke out during public comment seeking accountability and reform from the city.
The Commission did not respond to demands or suggestions from speakers throughout the meeting.
5C Critical Mass’s surveillance teach-in raises concerns about Claremont Police Department camera use
More than 70 people gathered in The Motley Coffeehouse on Feb. 27 to attend 5C Critical Mass’s Teach-In “Watching the Watchers,” which discussed the use of Claremont’s License Plate Reading Cameras in the wake of increased surveillance and immigration crackdowns.

Claremont Police Department arrests Pomona faculty member on campus
On Wednesday afternoon, the Claremont Police Department (CPD) arrested a Pomona College faculty member on trespassing charges. At the time of their arrest, the faculty member was demonstrating in solidarity with Palestinians in front of Smiley Hall, playing music from a speaker. They were located 500 feet away from Big Bridges Auditorium, where a die-in staged by students was taking place.
