P-P Basketball Defeats Cal Lutheran in Double Overtime for spot in SCIAC championships

Pomona-Pitzer defeated Cal Lutheran in double overtime on Friday, February 26 to send the Sagehens to their third straight SCIAC championship game against rival CMS. Cal Lutheran led for much of the game, but the Sagehens refused to be put away. After trailing by as much as 12, P-P fought back for a 47-47 tie in the second half, and the game went largely back and forth from there. In the second overtime, Adam Chaimowitz PO ’10 again came up with a game winning three-pointer. The senior guard hit a three to put his Sagehens ahead by 2, and the defense fended off Cal Lutheran for the remainder of the games. The final score was 74-71.

The SCIAC championship game will be held tonight, Saturday, February 27th at 7:30 in CMS’ Ducey Gym. Last season, the Stags won the title over the Sagehens. The year before, the Sagehens won the championship. The title matchup caps an incredibly successful four years for the two senior heavy teams. This game will be for all the bragging rights.
