Late-inning heroics fueled the Athena softball team (9-2, 8-0 SCIAC) in both games of its doubleheader against La Verne last weekend, keeping the team perfect in SCIAC competition this season.
In game two, it was Alexa Schulten CM ’22 who came through with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning to seal starting pitcher Lauren Richards’ CM ’22 complete-game win, and a 3-2 win for CMS. Richards also threw a scoreless eighth inning to hold the then-tied game one, before Chloe Amarilla CM ’19 drove in Jessica Fox CM ’21 to walk off the 8-7 win.
