RECAP: Athena water polo notches first two SCIAC wins of the season

Defense led the way this week as the CMS women’s water polo team (4-8, 2-1 SCIAC) defeated SCIAC opponents Caltech and Redlands 13-6 and 7-6, respectively, but fell to Whittier 7-6.

In the Redlands game, goalie Jessica Salaz SC ’22 racked up eight saves, including a crucial block on a second-half penalty shot; she also tallied five steals. Celia Aldrete CM ’20 led in scoring with three goals against the Bulldogs. Against Caltech, Krystal Sung CM ’19 scored three times, while Maddie Menard CM ’22, Haley Gibbs SC ’19 and Amelia Ayala ’21 each added a pair.
