Commissioner of_x000D_
Off-Campus Relations Kimberley Africa PO ’15 opened the Nov. 12 Associated Students of Pomona College (ASPC) Senate meeting with a proposal_x000D_
for some sort of ASPC-backed relief effort to aid the Phillipines. Among other things, she suggested putting_x000D_
Claremont Cash donation stations in the Coop Store and Coop Fountain to entice_x000D_
students to combine drunken food cravings with charitable action.
Next, the_x000D_
conversation turned to Harwood Halloween’s financial horrors. Senators generally agreed that the $37,000_x000D_
spent on Harwood Halloween this year was a ridiculously large sum. Vice President for Campus Affairs Giselle_x000D_
Fierro PO ’14 started discussion by voicing her belief that the event_x000D_
should not be canceled, but rather altered to have a smaller budget. Vice President for Finance Eric Martinez PO_x000D_
’14 suggested that the Senate add a stipulation to Pomona Event Committee (PEC) funding_x000D_
that would cap spending on Harwood Halloween at $20,000 without mandating_x000D_
precisely how that money should be spent. Most attendees liked this idea, and President_x000D_
Darrell Jones III PO ’14 decreed that a statement be drafted during next week’s Budget_x000D_
Committee meeting. Commissioner of Communications_x000D_
Sarah Devereaux-Hardimon PO ’16 requested that the statement include a recommendation to_x000D_
improve Harwood Halloween’s sexual assault culture.

In the waning_x000D_
minutes of the meeting, Senior Class President Emma Wolfarth PO ’14 spearheaded_x000D_
a campaign to get rid of the $1,000-per-organization security funding caps for_x000D_
weekly non-PEC parties. Tugging at her_x000D_
gray hairs, she assured younger senators that weekly party culture was much_x000D_
better back in her days of youth. Martinez seemed dubious about the feasibility of eliminating caps_x000D_
entirely, but he promised to talk to the Budget Committee about reallocating_x000D_
money.
