Claremont to Consider Funding Insolvent Museum

Claremont’s city council will discuss Tuesday a plan to fund the city’s beleaguered Museum of Art.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

reported

Monday that the independent museum, whose board has said it could close its Village Expansion’s Packing House location due to

insolvency

, is requesting $18,879 from the city’s public art fund to cover staff, rent and operating costs through the end of the year.

The city has granted the museum $9,971 in emergency funding since September to maintain daily operations, the Daily Bulletin reported. The funding was expected to cover the museum’s expenses through Tuesday.

Council members, some of whom have expressed support for the proposal, will consider the plan at their monthly meeting Tuesday night.
