After the beloved Laemmle theater closed in 2025, Regency Theatres’ Directors Cut opened in Claremont Village on Oct. 2, bringing a mix of independent films and mainstream releases to the neighborhood. The new theater offers a different take on local moviegoing, but can it attract a broader audience without losing the spirit of its predecessor?

Mahjong in the Gallery: HMC’s newest exhibition
“Mahjong and Its Cultural Forms” opened on Sept. 14 at the Sprague art gallery on Harvey Mudd’s campus. The minds behind the exhibit are Jia Yi Gu and Angie Lin. Gu is an assistant professor of architecture at HMC and a Los Angeles-based curator and architectural scholar.
