The Student Life, the oldest college newspaper in Southern California, is hiring. Aspiring writers, editors, photographers, graphic designers, page designers, business managers, copy editors, podcasters and other 5C students interested in journalism are invited to apply.
No prior experience is necessary, as TSL will provide training in reporting, writing and ethics to new hires. Staff members can expect to receive ongoing support and training throughout the semester as well.
Paid positions are available, including on TSL’s senior staff, which meets multiple times each week to plan content, edit stories and produce the 130-year-old newspaper.
To apply, interested students should fill out the application, which includes signing up for a short interview with TSL’s three-person editorial board.
TSL will also host two informational sessions in Walker 101 at Pomona College, across from Frary Dining Hall, during the first week of classes — Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and Jan. 24 at 12:30 p.m. — for prospective staff members who want to learn more about how TSL works.
The editorial board expects to have completed all interviews and hires by the beginning of the second week of school, so TSL hopefuls should apply soon.
Kellen Browning PO ’20 is a politics major from Davis, California. He’s currently TSL’s editor-at-large and previously served as the paper’s editor-in-chief, managing editor and news editor.
