On Tuesday, Oct 31st, in a Halloween thriller at Roberts Pavilion, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women’s volleyball served up a wicked sick victory. The Athenas made sure the Beavers didn’t stand a ghost of a chance, sweeping them 3-0 with a fang-tastic performance that sent Caltech howling back to their dams.
Dominating through the decades; This Stag sweep marks the nineteenth consecutive sixth-street loss for the sagehens volleyball team history. With five consecutive SCIAC section championships, a cast of killers, and zero sets dropped in league play so far this season, the Athenas are flawless. The Sagehens made it competitive, but they couldn’t stand with the champs.
Athenas served, but they did not eat. On Friday, Sept. 8th, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women’s volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season, conceding to the Washington University Bears 3-2 in the annual East-West Battle hosted at Roberts Pavilion.
Antlers and spears, cardinal and gold, Stags and Athenas – this year’s CMSPYs were a huge success. The annual CMS Athletics awards ceremony hosted by the student athlete advisory committee (SAAC) was held last week in Roberts Pavilion. With 11 total awards, along with a trivia game and penalty of jokes, the night left athletes full of more than just the catered tacos, swelled with pride for CMS sports and excited for the seasons to come.
No one is surprised and 3/5 of the 5Cs are happy. The No. 1 ranked CMS women’s volleyball team sent the Sagehens back to their nests with beaks dragging on Saturday when they defeated them three sets to none. This Sixth Street rivalry game ended in favor of the Athenas, who are continuing their unbeaten streak and have yet to lose a single set in conference play.
The undefeated Athena’s women’s volleyball proved their streak was no Occident when they defended their home court with a 3-0 victory over Occidental last Friday.
