It was the tenth inning on Saturday, Apr. 2. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team (8-19, 6-12 SCIAC) had come off a big win against California Institute of Technology (2-19, 0-15 SCIAC), crushing the Beavers 17-6 on Friday, Apr. 1, in Pasadena. However, game two was much more of a nail-biter as the teams entered extra innings tied 8-8 after nine on CMS' home turf. A leadoff double from Chris McCarren and a single from Kai Kirk put CMS down a run, but the Stags were ready to rally: Three consecutive walks loaded the bases for CMS in the bottom of the tenth. Starting pitcher MacKenzie Menthen CM ’16 stepped up to the plate, determined to put the Stags on top. With a 1-2 count, Menthen launched the ball deep into left-field to clear the bases with a monster walk-off grand-slam. CMS finished the weekend with a successful sweep over the Beavers, 17-6, 12-9, and 14-4. The Stags hope to continue their winning streak as they take on University of Redlands Apr. 15-16.
