Sagehen Volleyball Outwits Whittier

The Pomona-Pitzer volleyball team started conference play on a high note last weekend, charting a five set win at Whittier College. Ellen Yamasaki PZ ’15 led the way with 17 kills as the Sagehens improved to three wins and seven losses on the season.

Whittier won the first set before the Sagehens took the next two. After narrowly dropping the fourth set, the Sagehens turned in a strong performance in the final set, outscoring Whittier 15-10 to take an important conference victory. Senior libero Heidi Leonard PO ’12 proved to be an asset to the team, leading a defense that held a 26-dig advantage over the Poets.

The Sagehens will continue conference play against rival CMS at home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
