A Quick Note from Your Sports Editors

Welcome to the 2011 incarnation of TSL Sports. This semester, we’re trying a few new things to bring you the absolute best in sports coverage and commentary. First and foremost, we are excited to announce our partnership with Claremont Sports Connection (CSC) and the Pomona-Pitzer Athletic Department. You’ll now be able to find live radio broadcasts of basketball, baseball, and softball on our website and at claremontsportsconnection.com. These broadcasts will be accompanied by live-updating game stats in a sleek interface. We’re also experimenting with covering games in a live-blogging format where fans can ask our reporters questions and get their observations in real-time.

We hope that our venture into live broadcasting will revolutionize the way the Pomona community follows Sagehen sports. To our knowledge, this is the first time any home P-P sporting event will be covered as it happens, allowing parents, alumni, and busy students to tune in and support their team. For their essential contributions to this endeavor, TSL would like to thank Athletic Director Charles Katsiaficas and CSC’s founder, president, and lead broadcaster Nathan Barnett PO ’11. Without their efforts and continual support, none of this would have been possible.

Second, as we continue to cover P-P sports teams in depth, we’re also trying to expand our coverage to include features that are relevant to general sports fans on the 5Cs. Look for articles in the upcoming issues about subjects such as the most interesting PE classes, the best local atmosphere to watch a game in, and the lesser-known sports going on around us. In this spirit, we also (for the first time in recent memory) have two dedicated columnists writing on national sports this semester.

We hope that you’re as excited about these changes as we are. As always, if you have any feedback or are interested in contributing to TSL Sports yourself, please get in touch with us at sports@tsl.pomona.edu.

Yours in fandom,

Stefan Castellanos and Nick Hubbard
