The Sagehens knew this one was going be a close battle. They didn’t know that they would only need two touchdowns to ensure victory.
Besides allowing an 80-yard, first-quarter touchdown pass, the Sagehens were practically perfect on the defensive side of the ball. They limited the College Poets to just two yards a carry and were able to get to the quarterback for six sacks. They forced three fumbles and recovered two, and grabbed two interceptions. In the fourth quarter, they even managed to record a safety.
On the other side of the ball, running back Russel Oka PI ’11 had a good game running the football, tallying up 106 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Jacob Caron PI ’11 had 295 yards passing, one touchdown, and three interceptions on the day, and RJ Maki PO ’11 continued his dominance of opposing secondaries with 179 receiving yards.
The Sagehens now stand at 2-1 in conference play. They travel to Redlands (3-1) tomorrow at 7 p.m.
