RECAP: Men’s basketball advances to 2nd round of NCAA tournament for first time since 2003, falls to Whitman

The Sagehen men’s basketball team beat UT Dallas (24-5) 58-37 in the first round of the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by No. 2 Whitman (28-1) 83-74.

P-P jumped out to a 9-0 lead against UT Dallas on their way to a 30-16 halftime lead. The Comets shot an atrocious 26.2 percent from the field, 15 percent from three, and 22.2 percent from the free throw line for the game. Micah Elan PZ ’20 had 13 points and 11 rebounds in his first double-double of the season.

P-P came out strong again against Whitman, building up a 34-26 lead with under three minutes left in the first half. The Blues then tied the game at 38 less than two minutes into the second, and never looked back. With 10 minutes left to play their lead had ballooned to ten at 57-47. James Kelbert PO ’20 had 13 points off the bench for P-P.
