After an eight-day closure due to misuse, Pitzer College’s Gold Student Center pool reopened Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The pool was initially closed Sept. 9 after severe contamination and safety hazards, including vomit, furniture and beer containers, were found in and around the pool, Pitzer Dean of Campus Life Dan Hirsch said in an email. He described the pool as looking like “a 3-day old protein shake.”

The pool has now been cleaned and is ready for use, according to Hirsch.

“Please note, it is the responsibility and expectation of ALL users of the pool to not only abide by the pool rules, but also to hold each other accountable if the rules are broken/ignored,” Hirsch said, adding that future violations of the rules would result in prolonged closures.

“Happy swimming/sun bathing/chillin out/maxin/relaxin all cool,” he said.
