Lupe Fiasco “Superstar” Coming to Pomona

There’s going to be a Fiasco in Claremont. A Lupe Fiasco.

The “Superstar” himself is coming down to Pomona College next month for what is sure to be one of the most epic hip-hop performances the 5Cs have ever seen. On Friday, March 5, the Grammy winner will take the stage at Bridges Auditorium for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year.

At the end of last semester, 5-C students received a questionnaire asking them to select the top three big-name artists they wanted to see perform and and how much they would be willing to pay. The survey generated more than 1500 responses. After reviewing the results, ASPC, in coordination with the CMC student government, decided that Lupe Fiasco was the best candidate.

“Lupe, depending on how you cut it, was almost always in the top three… and he was within the budget.” ASPC President Jed Cullen said. Cullen also noted that Fiasco was not only an artist that everyone likes, but also someone with whom they would feel comfortable.

“He’s a socially conscious rapper with a good message,” one student wrote in response to the survey.

Students from across the 5Cs cannot wait for Lupe to perform.

“I’m really stoked for the concert,” Jimmy Leiber PO ’13 said. “I’ve seen him twice before and he puts on an absolutely incredible show.”

The hip-hop group B.o.B. and the artist Anthem are set to open for Fiasco. The concert starts at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, March 5. For 5-C students, tickets are available at the Bridges Auditorium box office and on the other four campuses. Starting today, tickets go on sale to the general public for $25 and can be purchased either at Bridges or at ticketmaster.com.
