The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s tennis team opened its season strong last Saturday with two 8-1 victories at home over NAIA opponents Arizona Christian University and Westmont College.
The day began with the matchup against Arizona Christian. The Stags opened up with a loss at No. 1 singles, but No. 2 doubles team Jake Berber CM ’20 and Daniel Park CM ’20 and No. 3 doubles team Casey Morris CM ’21 and Jay Yeam CM ’20 both took home victories, putting the Stags up 2-1 heading into the singles matchups.
From there, CMS dominated the rest of the matches. Led by No. 1 singles player Nikolai Parodi CM ’20, the Stags’ singles players made quick work of the Firestorm, winning all six matches in straight sets.
Later in the afternoon, CMS took on Westmont. Similarly, the Stags went 2-1 in doubles matchups, and held a slim advantage heading into the singles matches. Just as they did earlier in the day, CMS pulled further ahead in singles, and didn’t drop even one set.
The matches showed just how hot the Stags can get, and just how talented they are, especially in singles play.
They will next face off against Colorado College Feb. 16 at home.
