P-P Golf Shows Well, Falls to Occidental

It was the second and final fall outing for the Pomona-Pitzer men’s golf team.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, the team competed at the Via Verde Golf Course against Occidental College, losing by a small margin of 13 points to the Tigers, 310-323.

The previous weekend, the Sagehens performed well in the first event of the year, the California State Intercollegiate Tournament, taking 10th. Though they have only two fall competitions and begin the regular SCIAC season in the spring, they didn’t lower their standards for either event: This past weekend, they took first, fourth, and twelfth, with other finishes close behind.

P-P’s Conor Rooney PO ’19, who earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors last year, teed himself into first place, finishing with a round-low of 73. Jack Carrigan PZ ’20 and Spencer Katchman PZ ’18 followed him in a tie for fourth.

The team will start their season in February. Their first competition is Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Brookside Golf Course.
