Pomona-Pitzer women’s tennis picked up another amazing win on Saturday, Apr. 16, against SCIAC rivals California Lutheran University.
The Sagehens all came out ready to dominate and immediately went to work. First came the doubles competition. Maryann Zhao PO ’18 and Emily Chen PO ’18 defeated the Regals 8-4, setting the tone for the rest of the day. Caroline Casper PO ’19 and Lea Lynn Yen PO ’16 came out next and took the No. 2 match 8-1. To keep the momentum rolling, Mae Coyiuto PO ’16 and Marie Fleming PZ ’16 finished the doubles strong, defeating Cal Lu 8-3.
With a sweep in the doubles, it was the momentum P-P needed to go out and win the six singles matches that followed. One by one, the Hens took to the court and showed their dominance on the court. First up was Caspar, coming out strong and defeating Cal Lutheran’s Gianna Cupo 6-3 and 7-5. Next up was Zhao, winning 6-3 and 6-2. Shivani Doraiswami PO ’18 followed the example set by her fellow Sagehens and won her match 6-0 and 6-1. Coyituo, Arianna Chen PO ’19, and Emily Kuo PO ’18 all came out to sweep the Regals as well.
The match against Cal Lutheran was only a set up for the Sagehens.This weekend, P-P Women’s Tennis will be participating in the Ojai Tournament in Ventura, California. Being ranked No. 3 in the nation, the Hens are sure to come out and represent Pomona-Pitzer in only the best ways.
With only two matches left in the season, against California Institute of Technology and University of Redlands, it is a given that the Sagehens will find themselves in the SCIAC Championships, followed by the NCAAs.
Sagehens’ women’s tennis will be at home on Friday, Apr. 29, against Caltech.
