Athena Seniors Leave Pritzlaff in Triumph

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas (10-6-3, 7-4-2 SCIAC) split their two games this past week to maintain their position in the SCIAC playoff hunt heading into the final stretch of the season. On Saturday, Oct. 24, CMS captured the 2-0 victory over Occidental College (6-7-3, 5-5-3 SCIAC) on Senior Day. Two seniors combined for the first goal of the day when midfielder Kelsey Heflin CM ’16 headed in a cross from forward Darrah Shields CM ’16. Shields scored again in the second half by slamming in a cross from forward Margaret Loncki CM ’18 to seal the victory for CMS. On Wednesday Oct. 28 the Athenas mounted a furious comeback, but eventually succumbed to Chapman  University (6-11-1, 2-10-1 SCIAC) in overtime 3-2. After heading into halftime down 2-0, CMS came storming back and tied the score at 2-2 with two second-half goals from Shields and forward Sydney Smith CM ’18. The Athenas play their last game of the season Saturday, Oct. 31 at Whittier College (9-5-2, 6-5-2 SCIAC) at 7 p.m.
