Ben Girodias PO
’15 attempts to break from the pack at the NCAA Division III National Championships.
In Mason, Ohio, at the Kings Island Golf Center, the Pomona-Pitzer men’s
cross-country took 17th place at Nationals, the highest Sagehen
finish since 1982. John Fowler PO ’16
and Corey Purcella PO ’16 led the P-P runners, finishing 41st
and 54th, respectively. James Kinney PO ’18, the SCIAC Men’s
Cross-Country Newcomer of the Year, finished third for the Sagehens in 125th
place. Girodias and Pryor Stroud PO ’15 rounded out the Sagehen pack finishing
158th and 225th overall. With Fowler, Purcella, Kinney and many other key Sagehen runners returning next season, the PPXC men’s team
looks to have an even better finish at Nationals next season.
For the PPXC
women’s team, Maya Weigel PO ’17 took 22nd place overall with a time
of 22:19 in the 6-kilometer race. With the top-35 finish, Weigel earned
All-American honors. Only a sophomore, Weigel has a strong chance of breaking
the top 10 at Nationals in the next two seasons.
