Meyer, Singh, Allinson, Weichert, Groth, DeBruin, and Sable All Victorious
The Pomona-Pitzer men’s tennis team dominated Haverford College 9-0 Tuesday evening. The Sagehens are off to an impressive start this season, having won all of their matches thus far.
The Sagehens have relied upon their steady, strategic singles play. Number one singles Tommy Meyer PO ’12 meticulously grinded out a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 victory, a performance typical of the Sagehens’ style.
Playing #2 singles, Uday Singh PO ’12 easily won his match 6-0, 6-0. Frankie Allinson PO ’13 also double-bageled his opponent at #4 singles, while #3 Chris Weichert PZ ’14 and #5 Alex Groth PO ’12 each won their singles matches by the score of 6-0, 6-3. At #6 singles, Joey DeBruin handily took care of business with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Sagehens were just as dominant in doubles, with the #1 tandem of Allinson and Meyer pulling off an 8-3 victory. #2 doubles was no different as Max Sable PZ ’13 and Singh easily won their match 8-1. Groth and Wiechert rounded out the sweep as they defeated their opponents 8-3 at #3 doubles.
Tommy Meyer was proud of the team after the match. “Our hard work has not gone unnoticed,” he said. “We have some touch matches coming up so we are excited.”
The Hens will face Trinity University today at 10 a.m.
