The Pomona-Pitzer women’s soccer team defeated Biola 2-0 at home in their third preseason game. Senior Forward Traci Lopez scored both goals for the Sagehens in an exciting first half. Early into the game, sophomore Allie Tao beat a player and crossed the ball to unmarked Lopez’s feet. With great composure, Lopez placed the ball low past the goalie for the first point. Toward the end of the first half, junior defender Jordan Bryant nearly scored off a free kick, but Biola’s keeper tipped the ball over the net. Lopez scored her second goal in the final minute of the first half with a header from junior defender Claire Mueller’s corner kick.
In the second half, the Sagehens were able to confidently hold off Biola’s attack. Tao almost took the lead to 3-0, but her low shot bounced off the post. Overall, Pomona-Pitzer out shot Biola 16-7 with keeper Emma Wolfarth only needing to make two saves. With the confidence from their shutout, the Sagehens will start SCIAC play against Redlands on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
