The Pomona-Pitzer Volleyball team is ready to take a spike at the SCIAC title. Coach Valerie Cowan’s squad is led by captains Heidi Leonard PO’11 and Jordan Hammond PO’11. Several talented new additions such as Ellen Yamasaki PZ’15, who leads the team with 96 kills, balance out a solid core of returning players.
The team’s season got off to a rough start, compiling a record of two wins and six losses in the Pacific Coast Classic and Cal Lutheran’s Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational. Although the Sagehens dropped all of their matches at the Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational, a grueling travel schedule that called for four matches in two days and the loss of some key team members left them confident that there is plenty of room for improvement once conference play rolls around.
The Sagehens hope to improve upon last year’s fourth-place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), beginning play at Whittier College on Saturday before playing rival CMS at home Tuesday night at 7:30. Come early and be loud!
