Scripps College’s Title IX coordinator will leave before the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, officials announced July 17.
Sally Steffen has been Scripps’ Title IX coordinator since August 2015, and previously served as the deputy coordinator, Scripps’ Dean of Students Charlotte Johnson said via email to students.
Johnson credited Steffen with developing much of Scripps’ Title IX process as it currently exists, and praised her work on cross-campus Title IX procedures.
“Sally has worked tirelessly to create an office which has as its first priority the support of students who come forward to report incidents of sexual assault,” Johnson said.
Steffen plans to start a law practice/consulting firm, according to Johnson.
Scripps will give students the opportunity to provide feedback on candidates for Steffen’s replacement, but also want to hire a replacement as soon as possible.
In the interim, associate dean Adriana di Bartolo will be the acting Title IX coordinator.
