Claremont Alumnus Peter Barker to Lead JPMorgan in California

Peter Barker CM ’70 became the California Chairman of JPMorgan Chase & Co. on Sep. 28.In a press release from JPMorgan Chase, Chairman and CEO Jamie Dimon said that Barker, the former chair of Claremont McKenna College’s Board of Trustees, has been “a trusted banker and terrific businessman in California for more than 30 years and will help [the company] continue to build the JPMorgan Chase businesses in the state.”While serving on CMC’s board of advisors, Barker has, according to CMC’s website, “held several key leadership positions, including Chair of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and Board Affairs Committee, and membership on the Executive and Investment committees.”He has also been extensively involved in philanthropic efforts in the wider Los Angeles area as a trustee at the Huntington Library and as the Chair of the Los Angeles division of the Boy Scouts of America.According to JPMorgan Chase’s press release, “Barker will serve on [the company’s] Executive Committee and will work closely with fellow California-based executives to serve clients, interface with California state officials, and coordinate and leverage the bank’s businesses.”“JPMorgan Chase has an excellent team here,” Barker said in the release. “I hope that my overall market perspective will help connect lines of business so we can serve more clients and grow our California businesses.”
