Acting Dean of Students Jan Collins-Eaglin is creating a Faculty Forum on mental health looking at student and faculty perspectives on diversity, mental health, and Title IX priorities this semester. She wants to increase communication between the Dean of Students and students. Also, the Coop Fountain is experiencing some financial trouble, potentially due to slashed hours that might be contributing to falling sales. One solution proposed asking clubs to buy snacks from Coop Store. Finally, the Senate hopes to get new ASPC Senate representatives engaged sooner so that they know the ropes by the time they begin serving their term. A few guidebook-like projects have been started to make this transition smoother.

At Pitzer Student Senate's Valentine's Day meeting, “A Bill to Allocate $5,000.00 for a Two-Year Pilot Program of Switchboard” was introduced. According to the bill, “Switchboard is a platform that connects alumni with current students for career support, mentorship, and other opportunities.” The bill, which was proposed by Vice President Josue Pasillas and two other senators, calls for Senate to allocate $5,000 to the program and work with Pitzer's Office of College Advancement. The funds will be used for a “two year pilot program,” after which Senate and the Office of College Advancement will evaluate the program.

The same day, Executive Board discussed that week's BeHeard forum, which “did not go super well due to poor advertising BUT there is another next week.” There was also a Senate meeting last week, with some groups brainstorming new projects for the semester. One Executive Board member reported that she “chatted about 5C budget hearings and TSL” at the 5C presdients meeting. Another member plans to meet with Vice President Denise Nelson Nash and Dean of Faculty Julie Liss about anti-oppression faculty training.

At the Feb. 12 meeting of ASHMC Senate, senators once again discussed the proposal for a Living Learning Community (LLC) that has been made by some students. They discussed a list of “regulations/stipulations” for the students interested in creating an LLC, including that the LLC must give Senate “monthly status updates talking about what’s working, what challenges have come up.” Senate also wants to create a committee “to actually determine how LLCs would be determined in the future.” Senators also discussed the possibility of including a Senate member on the selection committee for the LLC to help prevent bias or favoritism in the selection process. After discussion, the Senate passed a Motion to approve the LLC for one year with the stipulations they discussed.
