Members of the Claremont Colleges Divestment Campaign turned heads, chanting, “Divest! Divest! Divest!” to kick off their “standing-on-chair” protest yesterday, Feb. 13, at Pitzer College’s McConnell Dining Hall.
Campaign members split into three groups and, standing on dining hall chairs, called for students to act on Pitzer’s commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
“We need divestment to be a part of a holistic climate action program at Pitzer!” members said. “If Pitzer’s motto is truly ‘Provida Futuri (Mindful of the Future),’ we must invest in our future.”
To promote divestment to the Pitzer Board of Trustees, which is meeting today, members of the Divestment Campaign will conduct a demonstration at which campaign members, wearing black, will gather outside Pitzer’s West Hall and create a “human oil-spill.” The demonstration will take place at 2:30 p.m. outside of West Hall.
