Fashion Column: Rocking Color Blocking

Color-blocking has been a consistent trend in the past couple of years, and it appears it’s here to stay for this autumn/winter too. BCBG Max Azria, Lacoste menswear and Celine all feature deep colored color-blocking in their autumn/winter 2012 collections.

This week’s spotlighted fashionista, Rachel Kartan PZ ’13, shows her take on color-blocking by sporting an orange button-down shirt (very Halloween!), a grey sweater, teal jeans, a pair of beige Converse shoes and red painted nails.

TSL: What are you wearing?

RK: My shirt is from American Apparel, my sweater is James Perse, my jeans are Rag & Bone and my shoes are Converse.

TSL: What or who inspires the way you dress?

RK: I love the way Alexa Chung dresses. I also look at the Man Repeller blog a lot. I like Leandra Medine’s attitude toward fashion as well as her style.

TSL: What is one item you can’t live without?

RK: Definitely collared shirts.

TSL: Where do you usually shop in Claremont?

RK: I like to go to the vintage thrift stores in Claremont, like The Grove Vintage and Replay Vintage. My family lives in Los Angeles though, so I do a lot of my shopping when I’m there.

TSL: What are you dressing up as for Halloween?

RK: Ah, I’m not really sure yet. I’m thinking of being a Rugrat, though!
