Here on the 5C campuses, we live as a collective: learning in classes, attending niche club events, communing over meals, dancing at parties and creating romantic and friendly connections. I am here to tell you, as your new resident 5C astrologer, that our existences are even less individualized than you may think.
Astrology can give us insight into the constantly changing rhythm of the 5C collective.
As college students at the 5Cs, astrology can be a way to understand all types of interactions. Like that moment you had with a baddie in Frary, why your roommate is so irritable today or why you’re speaking with no filter at all.
I am here to help you navigate your individual existence in the grand scheme of the 5C community. My name is Georgia, and my big three are Sagittarius sun, Leo moon and Gemini rising. The big three — sun, moon and rising — are the most important placements in your chart: They represent how you appear to others, what you value in life and how you express yourself, respectively. Using the ancient system of planets, degrees, moon phases and positions, I can show you all of astrology’s hidden messages.
Astrology cooks up a recipe for the “potential” of future events, relationships and opportunities. The messages and guidance that astrology provides can be taken in any way, as seriously or as skeptically as you wish.
Here are some basics to know: One, each planet “rules” different things (i.e. Mercury rules communication and writing; Venus rules love and beauty) — the mythology of the ancient Roman gods represents the meanings of the planets (for all of the nerds who took Latin); two, each person has their own astrology chart, which is a map of the stars at the time you were born; three, the movement of the planets changes constantly and affects our daily lives — the beauty of astrology is that the movements affect everyone differently depending on each person’s placements.
Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon in Virgo (Friday, March 17)
I beg you to believe the old wife’s tales: people are crazier on full moons. The phase of the full moon is a ripe time for manifesting, ending old cycles by illuminating what no longer serves you.
This Friday is a special planetary cocktail: There is also a full lunar eclipse. Eclipses are important events and have been since the ancients.
Lunar eclipses often bring up themes of personal evolution. Over your lifetime, when lunar eclipses occur, they remind you of your higher purpose and how that can be determined by your emotional relationships. For the 5Cs, this Friday could bring a lot of activity: inspiration for the theme of your next DJ set, falling into an internet rabbit hole or having deep conversations with your close friends. Often, full moon days can feel like a fever dream in the best way possible.
However, the moon is in the sign of Virgo. As the sign of the healer, Virgo is an earth sign that is characterized as grounded, intelligent and organized. This Virgo full moon brings attention to detail and service to our emotional relationships. You will have to be responsible for how you communicate your emotions. Virgo brings down the misty-eyed, hippy vibes of Pisces at this time, bringing us all back to Earth. This lunar eclipse and full moon can shine some logic and analysis into the deep feelings of Pisces.
Venus Retrograde (March 1 to April 12)
Love, beauty, sex and art all fall under Venus’s rulership. Where Venus is located in your chart can influence how you flirt, what you value in relationships and the aesthetics you are attracted to.
Venus is all over the 5C campuses: the outfits you wear that attract compliments or what types of people hit on you. For the collective, Venus can affect the dynamics of romance and love for the whole campus. During this Venus retrograde, there is a slowness to the speed of romance and beauty.
Retrogrades are when a planet appears to be moving backward. During these cycles, a planet’s influence diminishes, creating time for reflection in the area that the planet rules (love and self-confidence in Venus’ case). Retrogrades bring up themes of bad habits and inconsistencies, illuminating where to improve.
Venus retrograde is a time to pause and reflect on your current love life. It encourages us to rediscover our own beauty for a bit and realign our romantic pursuits with our greater goals. You may realize your confidence is being neglected — now is the time to spend some time focusing on it once again.
Under the two signs of Pisces and Aries, this is sure to be an emotional and passionate time for Venus due to the nature of those two signs. You may suddenly want to change your aesthetic or try out new beauty treatments. Don’t give in to these urges. It is not a good time to change anything about your appearance, according to astrology. Save the bobs and the new tattoos for Taurus season.
During this Venus retrograde, embrace the extra time you have to decide what type of love you want to attract in your life. It is always a good time to take things slow and live in the moment. In tandem with Mercury in retrograde, the next couple of weeks will bring out the truth in relationships, communication and our self-identity.
Mercury Retrograde in Pisces and Aries (March 17 to April 7)
When Mercury is in retrograde, it retraces its steps back to the problems of the last time it was in that sign. Mercury retrograde in Pisces brings a lens of nostalgia and deep feelings for the past. Mercury retrograde is usually characterized by communication issues and its glitching effects on technology. However, the lesson learned from the planet of communication in retrograde is related to its motion.
When Mercury slows down and goes backward, it is a lesson for us to be detailed and intentional with our words and means of communication. The past might come back: Expect contact from situationships or past relationships. Don’t take the bait from these people — it does not mean they have changed! The past will certainly be on your mind.
It’s optimal to embrace the challenges of the retrograde: Take time to pause and reflect more often. For the next month, focus on your concision in your daily interactions.
During this Mercury retrograde in Pisces, the truth of your emotions is sure to come out. You may speak from your heart and from new, otherworldly dimensions. Embrace it because this transit brings a “male-manipulator whose favorite artist is Phoebe Bridgers” to the function that is the opposite of a “loverboy who doesn’t have any social media” that Pisces represents.
Here at the 5Cs, the combination of so many different paths and people is sure to bring a constant stream of lessons and new experiences to everyone on campus. Astrology comes in as a new way to turn these situations on their heads to see them from a new perspective. The quick-changing planets always mirror the quick-changing dynamics of living, studying and partying on a college campus.
P.S. If you are interested in learning more about your natal chart, I recommend you generate a free report from Co-Star, CafeAstrology.com or Astro.com! They offer explanations of the inner workings of your placements in a digestible way. However, always take what resonates and leave what doesn’t!
