Men’s Soccer Recap: October 9 The Student Life Staff 17 years ago The Pomona-Pitzer men’s soccer team scored a huge upset against SCIAC arch-rivals Redlands Saturday afternoon. Zack Mirman PO ’11 put away a penalty kick in the 89th minute to give the Sagehens a 2-1 victory and a sole possession of first place in the SCIAC standings.“I actually wasn’t that nervous,” Mirman said after the game. “I was just excited for the opportunity.”Mirman’s opportunity came knocking after striker James Yong PI ’13 was dragged down in the box by a Redlands defender. Yong had been pounding away at the Bulldogs’ defense all day—they had mostly been pounding away at his ankles.Still, the referee finally had enough and blew the whistle, allowing Mirman to beat the keeper calmly. The Sagehens’ first goal came in the opening half, courtesy of a beautiful play by Franco Simbana PI ’12. Simbana chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to set up Wynn Sullivan PO ’10, who barreled down on the ball and put it home for his third goal in as many games since returning from injury.P-P improved to 5-1 in SCIAC, while Redlands fell to 3-3. The Sagehens’ next home game is Wednesday against Whittier at 4 p.m. Facebook Comments See moreShare this: Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Print (Opens in new window) Print Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email Men’s Soccer Looks to Unseat RedlandsDateSeptember 25, 2009 10:11 amIn relation toSportsNasry Leads Men’s Soccer in Comeback Win Over OccidentalDateOctober 1, 2009 3:00 pmIn relation toSportsHistoric Year for Men’s Soccer Despite Early Sagehen Tournament ExitDateNovember 13, 2009 4:00 pmIn relation toSports
