After jumping to a big first-half lead, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens men’s basketball team (1-5) cruised to a win over the Life Pacific College Warriors (4-5) 97-74 Tuesday night, securing its first win of the 2017-18 season. The Sagehens were led by Adam Rees PO ’20, who scored a career-high 29 points in the victory while shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the field.
Pacific took an early lead in the matchup, but P-P responded with a resounding 25-2 run to push the score to 30-12 halfway through the first half. The Sagehens continued to hold this commanding lead into halftime, leading 59-36 at the break.
While the Sagehens slowed down offensively in the second half, they still cruised to an easy win, despite a late offensive push by Pacific.
Rees was the story of the night, as his perfect shooting included a 6-for-6 mark from behind the arc.
He was aided by solid performances from Daniel Rosenbaum PO ’19, who had 20 points of his own, and Micah Elan PO ’20, who scored 14 points and tallied seven assists.
It was a much needed victory for P-P, which had been looking to get on track after a difficult 0-5 start to the season. The team will play one more nonconference game before getting into the SCIAC slate – against Westmont on Dec. 2.
The Sagehens’ SCIAC schedule opens with a home game vs. Chapman on Dec. 6.
