The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's golf team won their first event of the season this past Sunday, Oct. 2, at Los Serranos Country Club. Competing against Chapman University and Occidental College, CMS posted a team score of 315. This score was 26 better than second place Chapman recorded.
Mary Bryan Owen CM '19 led the way for the Athenas, shooting a 77. Right behind her were Kelly Ransom CM '19 and Eunice Song CM '20, who both shot 79. Emma Kang CM '20 and Taylor Hughes CM '20 both shot 81 to round out the team score. Libby Ramsey and Taylor Kain-Godoy competed as individuals.
Owen, Ransom, and Song all played consistently, putting up a lot of pars and avoiding more than bogey most of the time. The three will be counted on to lead CMS back into the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's playoffs and, hopefully, the National Collegiate Athletic Association's tournament. They will likely have to go through defending champion Univesity of Redlands and possibly a strong Pomona-Pitzer squad in order to return to the NCAAs for the first time in three years.
Coming up, the Athenas will host the CMS invite at Los Serranos this weekend. After that, they head to Arizona to play their last tournament of the fall semester.
