Vicki Klopsch was hired as the new executive director of Scripps College’s Laspa Center for Leadership beginning Sept. 17, according to an email to the student body from Scripps College’s Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Charlotte Johnson.

Klopsch has worked for Scripps since 2009 as the director and later as the executive director of the Scripps Career Planning and Resources Center. She was promoted to her new role on the recommendation of a search committee chaired by Johnson.

“Vicki brings new energy, new ideas, and a strong willingness to build on the successes of the Laspa center, [to] better define its role, and [to] create its niche among the cadre of leadership institutes at colleges and universities across the country,” Johnson wrote in the email.

The Laspa Center for Leadership aims to close the “gender leadership gap by providing programming, partnerships, and engagement designed to empower emerging women leaders and to expand women’s global influence, power, and impact,” according to its website. The center hosts various events, including talks with influential women and leadership workshops.

“[T]he Laspa Center has enormous potential to help shape future generations of leaders within a context where issues of gender, influence and equity are foregrounded in important ways as we work to expand the pool of highly effective women leaders,” Klopsch wrote in an email to TSL. “I will continue to oversee CP&R and serve as a member of the External Relations and Institutional Advancement management team.”

Klopsch is particularly interested in organizational dynamics, strategic planning, and program development. Under her leadership, CP&R has twice been ranked a top 20 career center by The Princeton Review, according to Scripps’ career services website.

“The Laspa Center focuses on helping students find and express the leader within,” Klopsch wrote. “In the coming months, I will be focusing much of my attention on staffing and program-to-mission alignment.”
