SAS Briefs

5C Activities Chair Haley Gotfredsen_x000D_
SC ’16 began the Nov. 3 Scripps Associated Students (SAS) Programming Board meeting with an update on preparations for Saturday’s Eurotrash event. She described efforts to make the biggest 5C party that SAS runs go smoothly, which include accepting Claremont Cash for merchandise* and allowing guests to obtain wristbands without dragging their hosts along.

Sophomore Class Representative Jennie Xu SC_x000D_
’16 noted that the sophomore class picture was not very successful, although the abysmal 35-person turnout may have had more to do with the miserable_x000D_
weather and the direct scheduling conflict with a popular lab time than a lack of 2016 class pride. A unanimous vote approved funding for both the Reggaefest and Wild Wild West events, and SAS Student Activities Chair Francesca Simmons SC ’14 noted that after the Harvey Mudd College party Catholic School Girls was postponed four times, Harvey Mudd College students are inviting Scripps College students to don rosaries and knee socks Nov. 8.

During the Executive Board meeting, SAS Treasurer Maddie Ripley SC_x000D_
’14, who attended a national conference for resident rdvisers at Cal Poly Pomona, brought home the_x000D_
exciting news that Scripps had won third-best resident adviser program_x000D_
overall. SAS President Marta Bean SC ’14 reported that she met_x000D_
with Scripps Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Nathalie Rachlin on Halloween in an effort to join faculty and staff in_x000D_
the midst of the administrative shuffle. Spooky updates included: Students do not_x000D_
know what the Dean of Students office is, the Dean of Students website is not student-friendly, and there is_x000D_
currently no committee to improve the website. Starting Nov. 11, Bean said, both Rachlin and Scripps Acting Dean of Students Samuel Haynes will be available to chat with students at “Coffee with Deans.”

Finally,_x000D_
the Board of Student Stakeholders (BOSS) is looking to start a committee to work with Honnold/Mudd Library staff members to offer student input and propose library enhancement projects. BOSS wishes to appoint two people from each Claremont College’s student government. Simmons and SAS Senator Stephanie Doan SC ’14 will represent Scripps.
