Small and quaint, with countless shops running up and down the side streets, it is home to residents and students alike. For students, the Village can be a welcome relief from the, at times, high energy pace of the Claremont Colleges. In catering to the large number of college students that flood on and off of the campuses each year, the Village is home to a unique variety of cute and cozy study spots, where busy students can grab a table, plug in a laptop, and dive into work while munching on a tasty snack or sipping a delicious drink. The CK Café is a small boba tea and hookah bar combination, located behind the Christian Reading Room on Yale Avenue. Hidden from the view of unsuspecting passersby, it is the perfect place to grab a drink and sit down with a book. It is the destination of choice for many Claremont residents, with its one-dollar spending minimum for hours in a welcoming and cozy atmosphere. With several comfortable couches inside, as well as a patio full of tables and chairs, the cafe also offers a wide variety of teas, boba, and soft drinks. Cheap, familiar, and subtly out of the way, it is one of the hidden treasures of the Claremont Village.42nd Street Bagel, too, is a perfect study destination for a few quiet hours of intense work. Known to many 5-C students for its wide variety of bagels and delicious coffee, 42nd Street’s quiet and friendly atmosphere and numerous tables both inside and out make it suitable for everything from a Sunday brunch to an all day cram-session. The sandwiches, bagels, and tasty supply of caffeine all provide great snack-breaks relatively cheap.There is also The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf located off of Indian Hill Boulevard. One of the more classic coffee shops in the Claremont Village, it is one of the few places where you are almost certain to find a seat, though you may have to go outside to get it. The inside of the building has countless chairs, tables, and electrical outlets for the frantic student, and houses the perfect study environment. Free wireless internet access is also provided, using the daily password on the large television screen inside. With an endless supply of caffeine and pastries, as well as close access to Yogurtland, Jamba Juice, and the Laemmle Theater, it is the perfect spot to study, procrastinate, or just chat.And last but most certainly not least is Podges, also known as the Claremont Juice Company. Located just at the end of Yale, close to the Metrolink station, it is a Village hotspot where once you go, you have to keep going back.Though seating is limited, both inside and on the small patio out back, it is the perfect study spot for students who like a little more noise and the smell of delicious sandwiches and smoothies while they study. With the option to order a half or whole sandwich, there is always just the right amount of food for those stress cravings. The service is wonderful, the food amazing, and the atmosphere perfect for an afternoon of hitting the books.
