Women's Water Polo: Top Ranked Sagehens Defeat Redlands Squad Despite Shrinking Team Size

Even with the various struggles surrounding the Division-III 1st-ranked women’s water polo team, the Sagehens are doing significantly better than Head Coach Alex Rodriguez and assistant coaches Jim Armstrong and Chris Lee expected to kick off the season.
Due to graduating seniors, the small number of incoming freshmen, and the unfortunate loss of crucial members, the team has dwindled to a measly 13, currently consisting of six seniors, three juniors, two sophomores, and two freshmen. Two of the three goalkeepers must now also play in the field.
Though this certainly sounds dismal, the Sagehens proved that they are far from giving up hope in their solid 12-7 victory over the University of Redlands (#3 in D-III) last weekend. Despite the lack of personnel, Rodriguez and the team strongly believe they can once again claim the NCAA Division III Championship Title this year. The Sagehens play next at the Cal Lutheran Tournament March 6 - 7 against Villanova, Cal State Northridge, and Cal State East Bay.
