A residential fire occurred in a house on the 300 block of North Mills Avenue just east of the Pomona College track at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10.

According to Campus Safety advisory text messages, the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Claremont Police Department (CPD) and Campus Safety responded, and the fire was soon under control.

CPD Officer Savannah Thompson, who was first on the scene, said there were no injuries, and that the occupant of the house was not at home when a neighbor called 9-1-1.

Thompson said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An arson investigator was present, but firefighters, who were shoveling rubble and removing burnt furniture from the house, suspected an electrical cause.

The section of North Mills Avenue from Harwood Place to Blanchard Place was cordoned off with police tape and police cars. Thompson said she is unsure when it will reopen.
